Michael Felkins

Michael Felkins serves as the Pastor of Preaching & Evangelism. Michael and his family moved from Northeast Texas to Ames in May of 2009. He has been married to his best friend and the love of his life, Stacy, since May 1990. They have three beautiful children: twin teenage daughters, Sam and Alex; and one son, Mac.

Michael is a graduate of Howard Payne University and Hardin-Simmons University (M. A. in Family Ministry). He has done continuing education through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and The Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. He enjoys reading the Bible, hanging out with Stacy, watching Sam and Alex “whup up” on people in basketball, hunting with Mac and a good cup of coffee with friends. Some of his other of his favorite past times are watching Dallas Cowboy and Texas Longhorn football with Stacy, playing paintball and going to movies. Fun fact: Michael is bi-lingual — he speaks English and Texan.

Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson serves as the Minister of Worship & Director of Technical Ministries at Grand Avenue. Originally from the Chicagoland area, Chris attended Iowa State University and graduated with degrees in Music Education and Computer Science. Along with his full-time responsibilities at Grand Avenue, he teaches vocal music part-time in the Roland-Story school district (north of Ames).

Chris and his college sweetheart, Sonia, were married in 2002, and now have three young boys and a pretty sweet minivan. Chris welcomes your encouragements at

Tim Young

Tim Young serves as GABC's youth minister. In May 2009, he experienced God's grace by marrying his college sweetheart, Samantha. She is his helpmate in this job as she disciples the girls and helps keep Tim's head on straight. He is originally from the small community of Clarion, Iowa (about 60 minutes north of Ames) and loves the family-like atmosphere of GABC.

Tim's favorite things about leading high school youth are watching them grow in their faith and knowing that the kids won't let him get away with anything. He prays that through discipleship and application the Grand Avenue Baptist Youth (GABY) will come to have a deeper, more joyful relationship with their Creator and Savior.
